The International Council of Shopping Centers Europe (ICSC Europe) announced the winners of the 2008 European Shopping Centre Awards on Thursday. Shopping malls from Austria, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, UK and, for the first time Latvia, picked up a total of 11 awards in the categories of Small New Centres (under 30,000 m2), Medium New Centres (30, 001 - 45,000 m2), Large New Centres (45,001 - 65,000 m2), Very Large Centres (65,000+ m2), and Refurbishment and Extensions.

In the category of Small New Developments, the ICSC Europe 2008 Award went to the Entre Deux shopping centre developed in Maastricht, the Netherlands, by Multi Development and 3W Vastgoed. The Princesshay shopping mall in Exeter, UK, won the ICSC Europe 2008 award in the category of Medium-sized New Developments. Built by Land Securities, the centre has a total 37,000 m2 of space and 65 retail stores. In the category of Large New Developments, the ICSC Europe 2008 award went to two developments: Galeria Krakowska in Krakow, Poland, built by ECE Projektmanagement Polska and Z³ote Tarasy, also in Poland, developed by ING RE.
In the category of Very Large New Developments, the ICSC Europe 2008 award went to the Manufaktura shopping centre in £ódŸ, Poland, built by Apsys. For the last award category, Extensions and Refurbishments, the ICSC Europe Award went to Stary Browar Shopping, Art, and Business Centre, in Poznan, Poland, built by Fortis Sp. Zoo
'This year, the dominant theme across all categories is the urban regeneration of our town and city centres. These new generations of shopping centres are bringing renewed life to our cities and indicate that consumers are calling for a return to a more urban existence,' said awards jury chair Stephen Pragnell.
The ICSC European Shopping Centre jury this year included Avi Alkas, CSM, CMD, Alkas Danismanlik, Turkey; Carmen Almagro, The Body Shop, Spain; Derek Barker, Haskoll Architects and Designers, UK; Biljana Bozic , East Capital , Russia; Gerrit Beker, ING Real Estate Development, the Netherlands; and Mario Taccini, Espansione Commerciale.
