The shortlist of finalists for the 2007 European Shopping Centre Awards has been announced by the International Council of Shopping Centers Europe (ICSC Europe).

The shortlist of finalists for the 2007 European Shopping Centre Awards has been announced by the International Council of Shopping Centers Europe (ICSC Europe).

Every year, ICSC Europe presents awards to the best new and refurbished or extended retail developments in Europe. Recognised as the most prestigious awards within the Industry, the 2007 Awards will be presented at the 32nd ICSC Europe Conference from April 25-27 2007 in Warsaw, Poland.

The Awards jury is made up of senior international figures within the shopping centre industry and any retail or entertainment project opened or newly refurbished or extended between July 1 2004 and June 30 2006 was eligible to apply for an award.

Picked from a record number of entries, the finalists were announced at the Mapic retail real estate event in Cannes, France recently. The 2007 Awards will also see the introduction of a new Award - ReSource, recognizing the industry's role in sustainable development.

There are six categories: Small New Centres (under 30,000 m2), Medium New Centres (30,001 - 45,000 m2 ), Large New Centres (45,001 - 65,000 m2 ), Very Large Centres (65,001 + m2), Refurbishment and Extensions, and Specialized Centres. All European winners will be automatically submitted to the 2007 ICSC International Awards Program to be announced in December 2007.

The finalists are:

New centres, small (under 30,000 m2): City-Arkaden, Klagenfurt, Austria; Viseu, Viseu, Portugal; Place d'Armes, Valenciennes, France; Rijnplein, Alphen aan den Rijn, Netherlands.

New centres, medium (30,001-45,000 m2): Dolce Vita, Porto, Portugal; Ettlinger Tor, Karlsruhe, Germany; Gran Via de Vigo, Vigo, Spain; Kanyon, Istanbul, Turkey.

New centres, large (45,001 - 65,000 m2): Chapelfield, Norwich, UK; Forum Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal; L'esplanade, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium; Mediterranean Cosmos, Thessaloniki, Greece.

New centre, very large: (65,001 m2 and over): Dundrum Town Centre, Dundrum, Ireland; Shopping Centre Sello, Espoo,Finland; Silesia City Center, Katowice, Poland.

Specialised outlet centres: McArthurGlen Barberino Designer Outlet, Florence, Italy.

Extensions/reburbishments: Allee-Center Magdeburg, Magdeburg, Germany; EUROPARK Salzburg, Austria; Manchester Arndale, Manchester, UK.
