The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) has named the 2010 European Shopping Centre Awards finalists. Some 19 centres have made it onto the short list of finalists which represent eight countries across Europe.

And after years' spent lobbying for the adoption of sustainable development standards, ICSC has welcomed clear evidence of developers adopting, and often surpassing, Europe-wide legislation. Awards Jury chair, Derek Barker, said: 'We have talked sustainability for years, and forward-looking developers have pioneered a range of innovations to reduce their centres’ carbon footprints as well as addressing wider issues of social, cultural, economic and other environmental considerations. Sustainably-built shopping centres are now no longer the exception and all our finalists have achieved a level of sustainability either in line with enhanced country-wide and EU regulations, or surpassing them. This is very welcome news for the future of our industry.'

Every year, ICSC Europe presents awards to the best new and refurbished or extended retail developments in Europe. Acknowledged to be the most prestigious awards within the industry, the 2010 Awards will be presented at the 35th ICSC Europe Conference from 28-29 April 2010 in Prague, Czech Republic.

Entries this year competed in six categories: Small New Centres (less than 30,000 m2), Medium New Centres (30,000 - 45,000 m2), Large New Centres (45,000 - 80,000 m2), Very Large Centres (Over 80,000 m2), Refurbishment and Extensions and Specialised Centres.

All European winners will be automatically submitted to the 2010 ICSC International Awards Program to be announced in December 2010.
