German property financier HSH Nordbank has called on the City of London Police to help it investigate possibly fraudulent business transactions at its office in London, the bank said in a statement. The transactions in question were carried in the period prior to, and including, 2006.

The bank said it has been investigating since June - and with the help of external lawyers - whether it has been damaged and if bank staff were involved. The Financial Services Authority in the UK and the Federal Office for the Supervision of Financial Services in Germany have also been informed.

HSH Nordbank's CEO Dirk Jens Nonnenmacher has said that any suspicion of irregularities within the bank will result in a thorough investigation and appropriate disciplinary action.
