Hilton said that one of the company's strategic goals is to develop and strengthen its presence in the luxury and lifestyle sector, using Waldorf Astoria, together with its sister brands, The Waldorf Astoria Collection and Conrad Hotels & Resorts. There are also plans to introduce a new lifestyle brand.
The Waldorf Astoria Berlin will be located close to the popular Kurfürstendamm shopping district in Berlin. The 31-storey hotel will feature over 1,100 m2 of conference and meeting facilities in addition to a spa and wellness area. The hotel group already operates one property, the 591-room Hilton Berlin hotel, about four kilometres away.
Hilton has 14 hotels in Germany: 13 Hiltons and one Hilton Garden Inn. The company also announced it expects to open three new hotels in Germany - Hilton Frankfurt Airport (2009), Hilton Garden Inn Frankfurt Airport (2009) and Hampton by Hilton Düsseldorf (2010).
