Hilton Worldwide has announced the signing of a management agreement with Calipso, a listed company owned by the Sif Banat Crisana investment group, to open a Doubletree by Hilton hotel in Oradea, Romania.
The newly built property will be Hilton Worldwide's third hotel in Romania and the country's first Doubletree by Hilton. The hotel is due to open its doors by September 2010 and will offer 147 rooms, meeting facilities for up to 350 people, a restaurant, bar, thermal spa and swimming pool.
'We are continuing to focus development resources on Romania and are delighted to have secured our first Doubletree by Hilton in the country,' said Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president development for Hilton Worldwide Europe and Africa. In 2009, Hilton already opened the Hilton Sibiu and has further projects in discussion 'to expand its brands in Romania and throughout Eastern Europe'.
The company entered Romania in 1997 with the Athenee Palace Hilton in Bucharest. Rob Palleschi, global head for Doubletree Hotels, said that the company is increasing its commitment to Eastern Europe, as it has several hotel projects underway in Russia and recently opened its first property in Kosice, Slovakia.
