Henderson Global Investors has secured planning permission for Charterhouse Place, a new commercial development at the gateway to the Charterhouse Quarter of Farringdon and Smithfield in London.
Henderson revised its plans for the scheme following Crossrail's acquisition of part of the former site of the previously approved project. Islington Planning Committee subsequently approved plans for the revised scheme at Charterhouse Place, which reduces overall building height and floor space from the previously consented scheme.
Charterhouse Place will provide 15,400 m2 of office space over nine storeys and 1,400 m2 of retail space at ground floor level. It will occupy one of the most prominent sites in the area, replacing a now demolished 1960's tower on the corner of Farringdon Road and Charterhouse Street.
Charterhouse Place is designed to achieve a BREEAM rating of 'Excellent'. Photovoltaic cells will cover the whole roof area alongside atrium glazing and ancillary equipment and the building will benefit from an advanced combined cooling and heating plant.
