Heitman has appointed Caleb Mercer as managing director of its European Private Equity Group to bolster deal-making and leadership of its real estate business in the region.
Mercer will originate, structure, complete, and manage investments throughout Europe and will report to Tony Smedley, Heitman’s new head of European private equity who joined the firm in 2018.
This is a return to Heitman for the dealmaker as he previously worked at the firm as senior vice president from 2012 to 2015, following which he joined Starwood Capital. He has also worked at Merrill Lynch as an analyst and at JER Partners. In total he has 15 years of real estate investment experience.
Smedley said in a statement, ‘I am delighted to welcome Caleb back to Heitman. His strong pan-European track record and considerable investment acumen will add leadership depth to our European team that complements and supports our increased investment activity in the region.’
He added, ‘Ensuring we have the appropriate balance of skills, experience and talent is fundamental to the broadening of our European Private Equity business. Recruiting Caleb is an essential first step in this process.’
