Halifax Bank of Scotland has entered into exclusive talks with Scottish & Newcastle to acquire a former brewery in Edinburgh for more than £100 mln (EUR 130 mln). A spokesperson for HBoS told PropertyEU that the financial giant plans to develop a new office complex on the site aimed at consolidating its Edinburgh-based operations into one centre. The new office will add to the bank's current head office at the The Mound in Edinburgh's historic old town.

HBoS said it expects development works to take three to five years. The Fountain Brewery, which closed in June 2005, covers some 12 acres of land in the city's office district.
