International real estate developer HB Reavis has commenced construction in Warsaw of its Varso Place development, which will include the tallest tower in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and one of the tallest anywhere in Europe.
The 140,000 m2 mixed-use scheme features a 230-metre office tower designed by architects Foster + Partners. Including the communication spire, the tower reaches 310 metres. Completion is scheduled for 2020.
'We are confident that Varso Place will become an exceptional destination; a new hub for local and international business and leisure in Poland, said Pavel Trenka, CEO of HB Reavis Group.
Located across the road from Warsaw's central train station, to which it will be directly connected through underground walkways, the scheme will revive one of the largest brownfield sites in the centre of the city, an area devastated in World War II and never fully revitalised.
As well as the 53-story tower, which will include viewing terraces open to the public, Varso Place will include two other office buildings of 21 and 19 storeys respectively.
According to HB Reavis, Varso Place will benefit from state-of-the-art technologies to reduce electricity and water consumption as well as air pollution. It will be the first project of this scale in Poland to be rated 'Outstanding' under the BREEAM certification scheme.
HB Reavis, originally from Slovakia, has become increasingly active on the European real estate market in recent years, developing office and retail projects in Bratislava, Budapest, Prague, Warsaw and London.
The company's recent transactions include selling its 33 Central office building in London to Wells Fargo bank and its Gdanski Business Center 1 in Warsaw to Savills Investment Management.
