The property will be the headquarters for the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), following the signing of a lease agreement in December 2017.

The eight-storey office building is currently under construction at a central location in Helsinki's Telakkaranta area.

'I am very pleased that ECHA chose us among a number of alternatives as the developer of their new office premises,' said Skanska Oy CEO Tuomas Särkilahti.

'The project shows that our capability to participate in projects of this magnitude, both as an investor and a realiser, gives us an undisputed competitive edge,' Särkilahti added.

The ECHA building complex comprises about 17,700 m2 of leasable space in total. Construction of the new premises is expected to be completed by the end of 2019, according to Skanska.

ECHA has been based in Helsinki since 2007, with offices for its 650-strong team currently based in the Annankatu area. The European Union body, which is responsible for the implementation of the EU's chemicals legislation, is expected to move in to the new office at the start of 2020.
