UK pub chain Greene King has bought New Century Inns (NCI) for about £33 mln (EUR 45 mln) including debt. The company said that the acquisition is part of a move to strengthen its position in the North and North East of England.

The deal involves 49 high-quality tenanted pubs of which 48 are freehold. The brewer and pub operator said that the pubs, located Northumberland, County Durham, Yorkshire and Derbyshire, generate EBITDA of £3 mln. The deal adds to Greene King's previous Laurel neighbourhood estate and Hardys & Hansons acquisitions in the North and North East.
