UK-based energy efficient house builder Greencore Construction has completed a sustainable residential project in rural Oxfordshire on the outskirts of Southmoor.
Consisting of 25 custom build and eco-friendly homes, Springfield Meadows has been named the UK’s most sustainable development due to its net-zero energy usage, the net-zero carbon in use, and better than zero embodied carbon.
Several of the homes make use of sustainably sourced Kebony wood, an enhanced and superior quality wood that is environmentally friendly, cost-effective and visually attractive.
Pioneered by Norwegian company Kebony, the wood-processing technology permanently transforms sustainable wood species such as pine into Kebony wood with features comparable and even superior to precious tropical hardwoods.
James Pritchett, communications manager at Greencore Construction, commented: ‘At Greencore Construction, we use as many bio-based materials as possible to build Climate Positive houses. It was a real pleasure to work with Kebony which played an important role in contributing to the success of Springfield Meadows. The project is thought to be the most sustainable development in the UK.’

Nine of the homes are affordable in nature and enable low carbon living due to the deployment of the Biond system selected by Greencore Construction.
The PV panels installed on the roofs are built to international Passivhaus thermal performance standards.
Residents are encouraged to adopt a green style of living, with excellent transport links and bus vouchers on offer to nearby Abingdon and Oxford, while an electric club, supplied by Gridserve, enables the hiring of electric cars on an hourly or daily basis.
Nature-focused amenities include a community orchard, wildflower meadow, herb garden and shared green spaces, in addition to large private gardens.
