The Greek government has announced plans to launch a tender for a massive development site near Athens' former international airport.

The Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund, the body created to manage the privatisation of state-controlled assets, is inviting expressions of interest from developers willing to take on the EUR 5 bn project, which covers a total combined area of 5.2 million m2.

The government, which plans to retain a share of future profits, is asking for the development of 'a mixed-use landmark location of national importance and international visibility and a pole of international appeal'.

Interested parties are required to submit a bid by end-March 2012.
