European online fashion retailer Zalando has appointed Goodman Group to develop its a 130,000 m2 self-operating logistics centre in Lahr, in the Upper Rhine region of Germany.
The new facility will allow Zalando to better serve customers in Southern Germany, Switzerland and France as well as to meet the further increasing demand for ecommerce.
Commenting on the location choice, Zalando's senior vice president David Schröder said the decision was based 'on a reliable cooperation with the state of Baden-Württemberg, the municipal development company IGZ and the city of Lahr'. 'Likewise, Lahr’s strong geographical location and infrastructure strongly influenced our decision,' Schröder added.
Jordan Corynen, regional director at Goodman, said the project will see the conversino of a 185,000 m2 former military site. 'We have now developed more than one million square meters of logistics space for online trading in Germany,' he noted.
