Data centre owner-operator Global Switch has launched the first phase of a planned €240 mln expansion to its existing data centre in Amsterdam.

The data centre in Amsterdam is already the largest carrier neutral, multi-tenant data centre in the Netherlands. This first phase was pre-let to a leading international telecommunications services provider. A carrier neutral data centre is one where tenants can use more than one telecoms provider to transfer data in and out of the centre.

The €240 mln expansion will provide a total of 25,400 m2. Once all the planned phases have been completed, the campus will provide 64,000 m2 of space and lead to a planned capacity of circa 100MW of power from diverse supplies.

The design of the first phase has a BREEAM-NL Datacentres 'Very Good' Design Stage certificate.
