German distressed property investor Publity has strengthened its asset management team with the appointment of Andreas Mengel who will be responsible for managing assets acquired in the Frankfurt region.

Mengel joins from Deka Immobilien where he worked for several years in leading positions, notably in the areas of portfolio management, leasing structure and leasing analysis.

He also worked for the real estate arm of the German railways Deutsche Bahn, where he was responsible for the company’s nationwide office space requirements.

Leipzig-based Publity started out as an online brokerage firm in 1999 before switching its focus in 2004 to distressed real estate loans and assets held by German banks. It manages a number of closed-end property funds for private and institutional investors.

Over the summer the company acquired the abc-Tower in Cologne, the Kontorhaus office complex in Frankfurt and the vacancy-plagued City Tower in Offenbach.
