German economic thinktank Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft (IW) has added a new position to its research team in a bid to broaden its property research activities.
Up to now, the Cologne-based institute focused primarily on the municipal and legal aspects of real estate. IW now aims to explore the interaction between the property and financial markets and how they affect the economy as a whole.
Corporate partners in the project include HSH Nordbank, IVG Immobilien, Hochtief and Investment Property Databank. The first report to come out of this partnership focused on real estate investment trusts (REITs) and property financing. Future areas of research include the privatisation of public housing and the significance of new financing instruments for the property markets.
