Hamburg-based Garbe Institutional Capital, which is part of Germany’s family-run Garbe real estate company, has made a hire to help boost science and technology property investing.

The company has appointed Remco van der Mije as senior investment manager and fund manager for its science and technology real estate platform as it expands beyond logistics and becomes more pan-European.

In a statement, Thomas Kallenbrunnen, MD of the firm, said: ‘Ideal conditions and a profound understanding of the users of the Science and Tech properties we manage are a central part of our long-term investment strategy.’

‘Remco has worked intensively with companies that are part of our key target group. He understands the needs of occupiers and will use his comprehensive skillset to create new momentum for the further development of our platform.’

Van der Mije began his career as an analyst at CBRE in 2009. He then completed secondments as a global m&a consultant at pharma company GSK, and later at Philips. In 2010 he joined JLL for ten years before moving to KPMG where he was a director within the strategy and operation team working on corporate and real estate strategy for clients.

He has worked in Amsterdam, London, Brussels, and Zurich.
