French founded logistics group, Barjane, has appointed Patrick Batten, former director of Segro, to drive expansion in the UK.

In France, Barjane is a significant player with a land bank of 700,000 m2 under ownership and a further 150,000 m2 currently under construction.

It has already built a high spec distribution project for sports retailer Decathlon in the UK, which it is about to extend to 32,500 m2 under a new 15-year lease and has ambitious plans to roll-out its platform in the UK. The Decathlon investment marked the group’s entry to the UK in 2018.

Prior to joining Barjane, Batten completed €500 mln-plus of logistics real estate transactions within the Greater London and South-East markets as a director with public property company, Segro.

Julie Barlatier-Prieuret, co-founder and CEO, said: ‘The UK logistics real estate sector is a dynamic market which is under-supplied, so the market fundamentals are very appealing. We are therefore delighted to welcome Patrick to our team. He brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and market contacts.’

The company added it was committed to sustainable development. The firm said it managed projects from initial design of the sites through to construction, including equipping buildings with integrated photovoltaic power plants and long-term ownership and management.
