Edward Bates, the former co-head of Doughty Hanson & Co Real Estate, has joined French fund manager Stam Europe as its new managing director.
Edward Bates, the former co-head of Doughty Hanson & Co Real Estate, has joined French fund manager Stam Europe as its new managing director.
Stam Europe is a privately held, independent real estate investment manager headquartered in Paris with assets under management of €1.7 bn.
The company is currently targeting €1 bn of opportunistic and core-plus investment and development opportunities in the eurozone.
Bates, who last year also set up his own value-add investment company, known as Eurovest Capital Partners, will work closely with Antoine de Broglie, chairman of Stam Europe, to share responsibility of the firm and further the overall investment strategy as well as originating and leading investments across Stam Europe’s key European markets.
Bates previously worked as co-head of real estate at Doughty Hanson which he joined in 2007 to replace John Howard. Bates led the group's growth in continental Europe, alongside fellow co-head Julian Gabriel. He stepped down as co-head of real estate at the European private equity company in 2011.
Before Doughty Hanson, the manager worked for almost a decade for Orion Capital Managers.
He is a member of the Urban Land Institute and is a UK Financial Services Authority approved person.
