Foreign investment in Spanish real estate rose by almost 20% to EUR 2.25 bn in the first five months of 2007 compared with the same period the year before, data published by the central bank Banco de Espana indicates. The increase runs contrary to the trend of the last four years. The highest foreign investment volumes in Spain were experienced in 2003 when about EUR 7 bn followed into the country’s real estate sector. Since the levels have decreased to EUR 6.65 bn in 2004, EUR 5.495 bn in 2005 and EUR 4.66 in 2006.

Spanish real estate investment abroad is continuing unabated. According to the central bank, Spanish investment abroad rose by 74% from EUR 839 mln in May 2006 to EUR 1.46 bn in May 2007.
