Five developments have been selected to represent Europe at the Urban Land Institute's global excellence awards ceremony in Miami later this year. The five winners were unveiled at ULI Europe's European Trends conference in Stockholm on Thursday. European jury chairman Ian Hawksworth said they were chosen from 11 candidate projects. The five winners - listed in no particular order - are:

- Eurodisney for its town development at Val d'Europe, Marne la Vallee

- ING Real Estate for its Kraanspoor office scheme built on an obsolete concrete crane track on the river IJ in the Netherlands

- Multi Development's Stadsfeestzaal shopping centre developed in an historic building in Antwerp

- Metro Group's Meydan Shopping Square in Istanbul which features one of the largest geothermal systems in Europe

- Stanhope's Unilever House in London which was developed in accordance to strict sustainability targets

Jan de Kreij, CEO of Dutch real estate group Corio and ULI Europe chairman, presented the winners with their awards.

Hawksworth said this was the fifth year of the European programme of the excellence awards designed to promote best practices in development and land use. ULI in America began the programme 30 years ago.

Up to five global winners may be named at the ULI fall conference in Miami from among winning projects in the Americas, Europe, and Asia Pacific.
