One of the largest and most ambitious urban projects in Western Europe is a step closer to completion in Amsterdam's city centre, it was announced at EXPO REAL on Wednesday.
The developer BPD will complete Oosterdokseiland, a 225,000 m2 mixed-use project with residential and office units near Central Station. Development started fifteen years ago and now the last phase of the project, which will be completed by 2020, aims to be a social hub, with over 70,000 m2 of space specifically designed for public facilities and shared spaces.
‘This will be the finishing touch to the development of this multifunctional area, overlooking the Oosterdok and the old town,’ said Jeroen Galle, project director. 'It is an inspiring mix of living, working, studying, recreation and entertainment for residents and visitors to Amsterdam.'
