Expo Real boosts delegate and exhibitor numbers

A total of 2,190 exhibitors from 45 countries and more than 46,000 participants from 76 countries were at the real estate trade fair at the Messe München venue, this week.

The total number of participants comprised 22,065 trade visitors (up from 22,029 in 2018) and 24,682 company representatives (up from 23,029 last year).

Meanwhile, 4.5% more exhibitors showed off their wares at the show than in 2018. The top 10 countries of origin among exhibitors after Germany were Austria, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland, UK, France, Romania, US, Czech Republic and Luxembourg.

Klaus Dittrich, chairman and CEO of Messe München, commented: 'The strong participation reflects the upbeat expectations of the real estate sector for this year.'

This year’s Expo featured a new NOVA3 hall showcasing more than 60 start-ups with innovative new proptech tools. It went down well with visitors, according to the organisers. ‘We are impressed at how well this new offering was received,’ said Dittrich.

Trending topics included the economic cycle and political uncertainty. Professor Gabriel Felbermayr, president of the Kiel Institute for the world economy, said: ‘We are in a recession but it is not one we need to be very worried about. The real estate sector is one of the few sectors that benefits from uncertainty.

'In a phase like that, people buy property, so uncertainty coming from the White House or from London is actually helpful to this sector; of course it must not be overdone.’
