The Hamburg-headquartered group which was acquired by Brookfield in March, has secured adjoining sites for more than 1,000 beds in Budapest.

The sites, on Ulloi and Lenhossek, ‘are in a great location, near Semmelweis University and the River Danube’ says the company’s managing director of investments, Alexander Gulya.

Gulya said International Campus is looking at making its first investments in northern Italy, targeting Milan, Bologna, Padua, and possibly Florence which the company believes have a strong attraction for international students. ‘Young people love travelling, and cities with culture and tradition have a certain “hipster” factor’, Gulya says.

The company is already invested in half a dozen German cities, in Vienna and in Prague, Eindhoven and Krakow.
