European hotel RevPAR (revenue per available room) rose 2.7% to €84.49 in the second quarter of the year, as hotels across the region registered overall positive results.
Data from STR showed nearly flat occupancy (+0.6% to 73.9%) in the European hotel market while average daily rate increased 2.1% to €114.33 when reported in euro constant currency.
Despite hosting the 2016 UEFA European Championships from 10 June to 10 July, France saw occupancy fall 5.5% to 68.2%, while average daily rates (ADR) declined 7.5% to €138.43 and RevPAR fell 12.6% to €94.34.
In Turkey, occupancy fell 23.9% to 51%, ADR declined 17.2% to 271.85 Turkish lira, and RevPAR dropped 37% to 138.55 Turkish lira.
The July 2016 Pipeline Report from STR said that 148,483 rooms in 966 projects are currently under construction in Europe, a 13% increase on the same period last year.
Europe has 63,353 rooms in 424 projects under contract for July, an 18.4% increase year-on-year. London reported the highest number of pipeline project with 32 hotels being built, representing 5,400 rooms.
Key openings across Europe in August already include Marriott International's second Moxy hotel in Germany, the 176-room Moxy Frankfurt Eschborn, and Preferred Hotels & Resorts' 225-room Hotel Pulitzer Amsterdam.
Madrid-based Room Mate Hotels has unveiled two boutique properties in Barcelona, the company’s flagship 81-room Room Mate Anna, located on Passeig de Gràcia, and Room Mate Carla, an 88-room property on Calle Mallorca.
