German commercial property lender Eurohypo has appointed Stefan Schmittmann, a member of Commerzbank's board of managing directors, as chairman of the bank's supervisory board. Schmittmann succeeds Klaus-Peter Müller, who is stepping down.

Schmittmann has been in charge of the Commercial Real Estate segment at Commerzbank since November. 'Taking on the position on the Supervisory Board was something that had been planned in advance. It will give me an opportunity to work on further developing Eurohypo’s leading position', he commented.

The company said it has also granted Henning Rasche's request to be released from his position as a managing director of Eurohypo with effect from December 31, 2008. His position will be taken over by Ralf Woitschig, Commerzbank's head of public finance, with immediate effect.

Woitschig spent over twelve years with Deutsche Bank, working in various divisions including Risk Control and Fixed Income, before working in WestLB's Group Treasury for two years. He became Chief Operating Officer for Public Finance & Treasury at Commerzbank on September 1, 2007, and was responsible for the merger of the Hypothekenbank in Essen with Eurohypo.
