The European Parliament has taken a 40,000 m2 lease on the landmark Square de Meeus building owned by open-ended fund manager KanAm Grund in Brussels.

The deal is expected to be the largest office transaction in Belgium this year.

Jones Lang Lasalle brokered the letting transaction.

Located in the heart of the European district, the building is a little over 40,000 m2 in three wings of 11 floors. It includes a private restaurant, a significant number of parking spaces and a view over the gardens of the square.

'The quality of the building and its unique location were the key elements in convincing our counterparties,' commented Christian Brode, director and head of asset nanagement leasing global at Frankfurt-based KanAm.

The Square de Meeus was vacated at the end of 2012 by its previous occupier, DG Research, and will now be refurbished to satisfy the requirements of its new tenant.

The European Parliament will take over the building at the end of the first quarter of 2014 once the renovation work is completed.
