Epad, the body which manages the development of La Defense business district in Paris, has launched an international tender for a new high-rise building in the area to be known as Tour Signal. Epad said the high-rise building would comprise at least 80,000 m2 and be a symbol of the renewed ambition of this almost 50-year-old business centre.

Epad said the building would include offices, lodgings, businesses and services and would have to comply with strict environmental standards. The selection of candidates will be made in three phases from October 2007 to the first quarter of 2008. The winning bidder will be chosen by a panel in spring 2008.

Epad said several sites could potentially host the Tour Signal. Three types are being offered for the project location: so-called 'strategic' sites, the entrance doorway to La Defense business centre and sites tied to demolition/reconstruction operations or to the recovery of the bank of the Seine River.

The project is part of a major regeneration project for La Defense district launched last year. That plan covers an area of 160 hectares with two million m2 of offices. It includes the renovation of outdated buildings as well as the creation of 150,000 m2 to 300,000 m2 of new office space by 2013.
