Dutch developers 3W and Multi Vastgoed, part of Multi Corporation, have won another award for their 12,000-m2 Entre Deux shopping centre scheme in the Dutch city of Maastricht. This is the third prize the centre has won this year.

Entre Deux was an urban redevelopment project which involved transformation of a disused retail complex built in the 1970s into a stylish shopping area.

Last week the centre was selected as winner in the category 'Innovative Design and Development' for new projects under 13,395 m2 at the 32nd ICSC International Design and Development Awards in Phoenix, Arizona.

The ICSC jury praised the transformation from a retail area in decline into a dynamic shopping centre that plays perfectly to the delicate outlines of the beautiful old town. 'The defining characteristic of the shopping centre is the successful fusion of old and new. This new public space adds another dimension to life in the city', the jury said.

Earlier this year, Entre Deux won the FGH Real Estate Award 2008 in the Netherlands, and was nominated for the Annual Award of the Dutch Council of Shopping Centres (NRW) for 'the Best Shopping Centre in the Netherlands.

Entre Deux has also garnered international recognition on numerous occasions. In March 2006, the project was awarded special merit in the category ‘Architectural Review Future Projects’ during the annual Mipim fair in Cannes. In November 2007, the project received an honourable mention at the Mapic Awards, an annual award for Europe’s best shopping centre. Entre Deux also received the ICSC European Shopping Centre Award 2008 during this year's edition of the Mapic Awards that was held in November. UK newspaper The Guardian proclaimed Entre Deux's Selexys Dominicanen the finest bookshop in the world, calling it 'possibly the most beautiful bookshop of all time'.
