Electrical goods stores are suffering the most from the global financial crisis with average turnover down 2.5%, according to Josep Camacho, director of Eurocommercial Properties. Other sectors will also be hit, he added. 'With the recession, retailers will see negative to no turnover growth,' he said during an investment panel discussion entitled 'Who's shopping now?' at the Mapic retail trade fair in Cannes last week.

So far, the health and beauty sector is still doing well, Camacho noted, citing turnover growth of 4.05%. 'Fashion retailers are also holding up well,' he added.

Most market watchers are agreed that discounters stand to benefit the most from the current downturn, in particular food stores such as Aldi and Lidl and
fashion retailers such as Primark and H&M.
