UK retail developer Milligan has signed a joint venture agreement with French construction group Eiffage for the financing and construction of the Retail Planet shopping centre in Barreiro, Greater Lisbon.
Designed by Milligan, Barreiro Retail Planet will combine the formats of both a retail park and a shopping centre. It will comprise over 40 stores and restaurants, 13 retail park outlets and 1,750 car park spaces totalling a gross lettable area of 35,000 m2.
The scheme is already 70% let, with the four large anchor stores comprising a 11,000 m2 hypermarket, a 4,000 m2 Decathlon store, the DIY brand Aki, and the Portuguese consumer electronics brand Radio Popular.
The project has been issued with a business licence and construction is due to commence in the summer of 2009 with the aim of launching in the autumn of 2010. Eiffage will be responsible for global management, including building construction and Milligan will be in charge of leasing and marketing.
