UK pub group Daniel Thwaites has sold The Stafford Hotel in St James' in London for £77.5 mln (EUR 85 mln) to Britannia Hospitality, part of the RAMW Group. The seller was advised by international real estate advisor Savills.
The five-star hotel offers 105 bedrooms in the heart of the West End. It is a landmark property, part of which dates back 350 years, made up of three former townhouses and a carriage house.
The RAMW Group is a Cairo-based construction, development and hospitality group owned by the El Sharkawy family. Its assets include the Hyatt Regency resort and hotel in the Egyptian city of Sharm el Sheikh.
Philip Johnston, Head of Savills hotels, said: 'This is a tremendous success for Thwaites and is one of the largest deals we have seen in London for the last two-three years.' He added: 'We have had extensive interest in The Stafford and this demonstrates the renewed investor appetite in the hotel sector for the right asset, marketed carefully.'
