According to a recent national report by Knight Frank, the property consultancy, student accommodation has performed 'exceptionally well' as an asset class over the past year, outperforming every other commercial property class and delivering consistent returns throughout the economic downturn.

Sydney-lised shopping centre giant Westfield Group is planning to shed up to 10% of its workforce, joining a lengthening list of property companies to cut jobs and reduce costs. Industry sources told The Australian that Westfield had already begun trimming staff in the finance department at its Sydney head office.
