Financial details were not disclosed.

The renewed 32,000 m2 building, created to a design by architects UNStudio, includes next-generation technical specs typical of Edge properties, and has been delivered without gas installations.

According to Edge, the original 'fortress' style building was stripped right down to its concrete structure, over 80% of which was reused in the new design. This was done to create distance to the neighbouring property.

The solar panels, climate systems, LED lighting, sensor technology and energy-efficient thermal energy storage will all contribute to the extreme sustainability performance of the building, according to the innovative office firm.

'With this new building, we deliver a premium quality building, providing maximised comfort and energy efficiency, as well as a healthy indoor environment. Modern applications make the building future-proof and will provide an optimal working space for the governmental agency,' said Thomas Ummels, chief development officer of Edge.

Within the design, UNStudio incorporated the desire to preserve the historic appearance of the building by, for example, rebuilding its clock tower.

'This building perfectly fits the ambitions of the Central Government Real Estate Agency. Centrally located in a large city, the redevelopment gives us the possibility to offer public servants a comfortable and healthy work environment.

'Both parties, Edge and ourselves, strive for innovation and sustainability, which is really reflected in the realisation of this sustainable government office,' said Roger Mol, director transactions and projects, Central Government Real Estate Agency.
