Innovative office developer Edge Technologies has entered the UK market with the £50 mln (€56 mln) acquisition of a London site from Colombia Threadneedle Investments, which it plans to transform into a high-tech office property.
The deal for 60 St Thomas Street on London's South Bank is subject to planning permission, Edge said, which will be pursued in partnership with the vendor. The property is currently occupied by the UK government's immigration office.
The site will be transformed in partnership with other landlords along the street, such as Greystar and CIT, to create a highly innovative destination, according to Edge.
Edge properties incorporate a technology-enabled platform with sensors that monitor multiple aspects of the office environment, including occupancy and energy usage.
'We are expanding into new markets to address occupier demand for buildings with increasingly high sustainability standards that put employee wellbeing at the forefront,' said Boudewijn Ruitenburg, chief operating officer, Edge. 'We believe in building better buildings that are not only inspiring workplaces, but that address the climate change emergency too.
'This is what we will deliver at 60 St Thomas Street – working closely with stakeholders to align on the long-term views and ambitions for a more sustainable Southwark.'
Ruitenburg added that Edge was looking for further sites to expand across London.
HFF and BCLP advised Edge.
