German supermarket chain Edeka is investing €300 mln in a new logistics centre northeast of Berlin, Germany.
To this end, Edeka Minden-Hannover, one of the seven regional cooperatives that make up Edeka Gorup, has acquired around 60 hectares of land.
The new 150,000 m2 logistics and warehouse site in Brieselang (Havelland district), on the western Berliner Ring, will be the company's largest to date.
It will ensure long-term supplies to stores in Berlin and Brandenburg for more than 350 Edeka retailers in the region.
Completion and commissioning of the new warehouse site is scheduled for 2028.
After acquiring the land, Edeka Minden-Hannover will now seek to obtain the building rights and, to this end, it is close contact with the municipality of Brieselang.
The new rull-range warehouse will be Edeka's eighth in the region and is primarily intended to relieve the existing centers in Freienbrink and Mittenwalde, which are currently operating at their capacity limits.
