German's leading retail developer ECE Projektmanagement has reopened its Hamburger Meile shopping centre in Hamburg following a major refurbishment which has extended the shopping promenade to a length of more than 600 metres. The heart of the new section is a large food court and includes a Rewe grocery store, Intersport Voswinkel and a Budnikowsky drug store.
The cost of the refurbishment is put at EUR 200 mln. CEO Alexander Otto said the Hamburger Meile, which now has approximately 50,000 m2 of sales area, is 'a prime example for the successful revitalisation of a shopping centre rich in tradition. It is setting new trends - also for many other outdated shopping centres all over Germany.'
The new food court contains 12 catering establishments including McDonald's, KFC, Bok, McCafé, Pizza Hut, Curry Karl and Chutney.
ECE ranks second in PropertyEU's annual ranking of leading European developers with 116 shopping galleries under management and activities in 14 countries. Another 21 shopping centres are currently under construction or planned throughout Europe.
