German property developer Ece said that it has started construction of a high-rise logistics facility near Hannover. The project, involving an investment of around EUR 35 mln, is being developed by ECE on behalf of the consumer logistics service provider Hermes Logistics Group.

The development will become the new northern hub of the airport of Hannover, ECE said. The Hamburg-based developer said it plans to develop around 80,000 m2 of logistics space by the autumn of 2010. The facility, located next to the A352 highway, has capacity for over 40 million packages.

'With the building of this complex in Hannover we can make our network in Northern Germany even more efficient and optimise further the time and quality of our services to clients,' said Hartmut Ilek, chairman of Hermes Logistik Gruppe Deutschland.

ECE has already developed a logistics facility in Friedewald on behalf of the Hermes Group.
