The Irish planning authority has given the go ahead for the construction of Dublin's first Ikea megastore in the regeneration area of Ballymun. Ikea can begin construction, but will not be allowed to open the new store until the planned upgrade of the nearby M50 motorway is completed, the planning office said.
Ikea will not be allowed to open until 11 am and will have to provide a shuttle service from Dublin to Ballymun.
Earlier plans for the megastore came under fire from a number of parties, including the Irish roads authority, due to fears that the store would clog up traffic on the M50. Ikea is also planning the construction of a 29,000 m2 store on the outskirts of Belfast.
