A programmatic JV between PFA, the Danish pension fund, and UK retirement housing specialist, Audley Group, has kick started an international foray together with a site in outer Copenhagen.
Evia, the name of the JV company, will fund the development of ten retirement communities with up to 250 later living apartments in each at Schæffergården.
Schæffergården is a former hotel and conference venue located near Gentofte.
Michael Bruhn, property director of PFA, explained Schæffergården was a unique property with a long history. In 1948 the country estate was acquired by the Foundation of Danish-Norwegian Cooperation.
’I am very pleased that Schæffergården will be the first location where we can launch our new serviced senior housing concept, Evia Living. I am certain that Evia and the concept of Evia Living is the right platform for what this is all about: An attractive housing alternative for 60+ who want the best possibilities for living the life that they wish – their whole life.’
Audley Group is a specialist retirement housing provider which acquires sites, develops and then operates retirement villages.
The Group has two brands: Audley Villages, founded in 1991 and aimed at the luxury end of the market, and Mayfield Villages, a broader proposition. The group owns a portfolio of 20 villages across the UK. Owners buy their own house or apartment on a 250-year lease with access to facilities and flexible care.
News of the Denmark investment comes days after it was revealed Audley Group’s shareholders had appointed an advisor to consider a sale. PFA and UK real estate firm Moorfield are the owners.
