Brookfield Asset Management has appointed veteran dealmaker Michael Rhydderch as partner of its advisory business Brookfield Financial.

Rhydderch was until recently head of capital markets for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Cushman & Wakefield, but has been winding down his activities at the London-based agency since March.

Brookfield has not yet issued an announcement on the appointment, but Cushman & Wakefield confirmed that Rhydderch will be leaving the firm at the end of August to join Brookfield Financial. His responsibilities as manager of the 200-strong EMEA Capital Markets team were handed over earlier this year to partner Jan Willem Bastijn.

Rhydderch takes a huge breadth of experience and contacts to his new position at Brookfield Financial where he will head up the real estate division and expand the asset brokerage/structured transactions team. In his new position, he will advise clients on transactions across Europe together with the existing team at Brookfield Financial who are specialised in debt advisory and M&A. He will start his new job on 3 September.

Brookfield Financial currently has 100 staff and is expected to grow by 20% in the next five years with the new property unit. Rhydderch will report directly to Brookfield Financial’s president and managing partner Brydon Cruise.

Rhydderch’s career dates back to 1994 when he joined CBRE as an investment director based in Portugal. After a one-year stint in Italy, he joined Cushman in 2000 to lead the firm’s investment advisory business in the country. He relocated to London in 2005 and held a number of positions in Cushman’s investment advisory unit before being appointed regional head.
