Real estate investment manager Curzon/AEW Europe has announced that it is transforming this year's installment of its annual Golf Day into an online auction.
The popular golfing event is traditionally held at the Wentworth Club near London every July, and is used to raise money for the Eastside Young Leaders' Academy (EYLA) in the UK. But Curzon/AEW said this year's event will be an online auction hosted at www.curzongolfday.com
'In a show of support for its business partners, clients and corporate sponsors, Curzon felt it was prudent to allow them to focus on the markets during the current difficult period in the UK, and elsewhere in Europe,' Curzon/AEW said in a press release.
Chief executive Ric Lewis noted that the golf day which Curzon/AEW has hosted for the last eight years attracted 250 real estate industry leaders from 17 countries last year. Over £60,000 was raised for EYLA. 'We hope to beat that amount this year - that's why we’re going virtual,' Lewis said.
EYLA was established in 2002 by its Executive Director Ray Lewis, formerly a governor in the UK's prison service, and is modelled on the work of the Young Leaders' Academy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in the US. Lewis was recently appointed Deputy Mayor for Young People by new London Mayor Boris Johnson.
This year, the Curzon/AEW virtual auction consists of prizes donated by sponsors, such as a chance to play with golfing legends and celebrity amateurs in the exclusive Pro-Am Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland, a certificate for seven guests to play with Sam Torrance on the West Course of the Wentworth Club followed by dinner in the Wentworth Grill, a trip for two to St Petersburg, four VIP tickets to see Arsenal football club play, and a night in the luxury Hotel Le Bristol in Paris.
The prizes will be awarded to the highest bidder on www.curzongolfday.com. All proceeds go to EYLA and the winners will be announced on 19 July.
