European real estate investment manager Curzon/AEW Europe said on Thursday it has completed its largest-ever capital raising for a new fund. The European Property Investors Special Opportunities fund, which aims to pick up attractive deals amid falling valuations in the sector, has closed with just under EUR 800mln in equity raised from institutional investors, including German, Dutch and Nordic clients as well as US pension funds.
'Companies, hedge funds, governments and private investors are sitting on a vast array of real estate waiting to be divested from their balance sheets,' said Ric Lewis, chief executive of Curzon Global Partners and chief investment officer for AEW Europe.
The new fund will focus on investment themes such as broken initial public offerings (IPOs), resource-constrained owners, operators or fund sponsors of real estate assets, distressed property assets and situations as well as direct property with value-added potential. 'Our pan-European platform will be absolutely vital as we now begin to deploy the capital entrusted to us,' Lewis added.
