Real estate investor and manager Cromwell Property Group has appointed Matthew Bird as head of its UK division.

Bird has more than 20 years’ commercial real estate experience, most recently as director and head of commercial at Octane Capital. Prior to this, he held senior roles at Legal & General Real Assets and Frogmore, the UK private equity real estate manager.

'Matthew will spearhead Cromwell’s UK activities as we continue to implement our ‘invest to manage’ strategy and build scale across our European platform,' said Cromwell’s managing director for Europe, Mark McLaughlin.

'This is a great moment to join the team as they look to leverage Cromwell’s established European platform of 20 offices in 12 countries to increase assets under management across Europe and the UK,' he added.

Cromwell manages more than €7.3 bn of assets globally, of which €3.7 bn are located in Europe.

Bird is currently a board member of the Investment Property Forum (IPF) and chair of the IPF Next Generation Group.
