He replaces Graeme Eadie, who will 'continue to work with CPPIB in a general management role with a focus on the investment approval processes', CPPIB said.

Cass was formerly senior managing director and chief investment strategist for CPPIB (Canada Pension Plan Investment Board), and assumes his new role on 15 July.

Cass has been with CPPIB since 2008, initially heading up the global capital markets group. He subsequently led the global corporate securities group and then the global tactical asset allocation programme, all within the public market investments department.

He has more than 25 years of investment experience, including senior positions at Deutsche Bank Canada and TD Securities.

CPPIB invests in public equities, private equities, real estate, infrastructure and fixed income instruments. Headquartered in Toronto, with offices in Hong Kong, London, Luxembourg, Mumbai, New York City, São Paulo and Sydney, at end-March 2017, the CPP Fund totalled C$316.7 bn (€215 bn).
