The coronavirus outbreak continues to wreak disruption upon the property sector, this time forcing one of the biggest real estate conferences in Asia to be postponed.
Private Equity Real Estate (PERE) - which is owned by PEI Media – has announced its flagship PERE Asia Week event in Singapore will no longer take place on 3-5 March, for reasons of safety.
PERE Asia Week will instead go ahead on 16-18 June, at the same location, the Grand Hyatt Hotel Singapore. The March event was expected to attract around 800 business leaders from the property sector.
In a message to potential delegates, PERE said: ‘In light of the recent coronavirus outbreak in Asia and growing travel concerns from PERE's global community, it is a necessary decision to move our global flagship PERE Asia Week conference from its original date of 3-5 March 2020.
‘This decision has been made to prioritise the safety of all our guests and maintain the industry-leading quality of the event.’
Singapore has 28 confirmed cases of coronavirus as of Thursday, while the third case in the UK was a man who reportedly contracted it in the city-state.
The postponement of the PERE Real Estate Asia Week event comes soon after three major networking events in Hong Kong slated for the coming days and weeks were also moved or cancelled.
