Spanish cooperative Consum has acquired 53 Supersol supermarkets and two logistics buildings owned by the Dinosol supermarket chain in Catalonia, the two companies announced in a joint press release. The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Spanish cooperative Consum has acquired 53 Supersol supermarkets and two logistics buildings owned by the Dinosol supermarket chain in Catalonia, the two companies announced in a joint press release. The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Consum intends to retain the 1,000 Dinosol workers and to use the two other buildings for warehouse use, Spanish national newspaper El Pais said.

Consom is a Valencia-based company, with a network of about 440 stores across Spain. Following the acquisition, the cooperative will become Catalonia's seventh largest commercial distributor with about 80 stores. In 2005, it had a turnover of EUR 860 mln.

Dinosol is Spain's fifth largest commercial distributor and owns 583 stores. The company sold close to 5% of the food bought in Spain in 2005.
