Work started Thursday on the development of the Les Arcades Rougé shopping scheme in Cholet, in the heart of the Pays de la Loire region in the Northwest of France. Les Arcades Rougé is being developed by Multi Development France and was designed by architects T+T Design and A+ Architecture. The scheme will open to the public in 2009.

The project, located on a site that was formerly part of a parking lot, is expected to regenerate part of the city centre where a new district will be created, incorporating a mix of urban functions. The complex will blend in with the surroundings as some old buildings will be included in the design. It will comprise some 20,000 m2 of retail premises, including a supermarket, two medium-sized specialised retail units, 40 shops and restaurants, a cinema (9 screens), 80 apartments and 500 parking spaces. A three-star hotel will also be developed.
